SATANFAA CLAIMS WBC GLORY AT LUMPINEE STADIUM
Thailand’s Satanfaa Rachanon is the new World Boxing Council MuayThai super-welterweight champion of the world.
The Rachanon gym star overcame a gallant Chadd Collins, from Australia, on a special show at the global Mecca of MuayThai, Bangkok’s Lumpinee stadium, this past Monday night, September 9th.
The World Title Contest:
The opening round started with what looked like the Aussie shark (his homegrown moniker) taking a slight advantage over Satanfaa landing crisp inside and outside leg kicks accompanied with shift hand combinations. But, all the while the experienced Thai was keeping his toes firmly dipped in the waters to keep the judges scorecards tipped on an even keel.
Round One Scores: 10-10, 10-10, 10-10.
The second stanza looked to be progressing in similar fashion with Collins workrate and unstoppable engine looking to match the finest and sharpness of Satanfaa. This time the Thai star revved his motor louder sending Chadd to the canvas with a beautifully executed sweep and landing the more effective shots during the round.
Round Two Scores: 9-10, 9-10, 9-10.
The third round was evenly matched once again but there were moments when Satanfaa’s efficiency started him towards winning the round. But there was also a strong argument that Collins continuous walk-forward output made the round even Steven. One judge agreed to that argument, two did not!
Round Three Scores: 9-10, 10-10, 9-10!
The fourth and penultimate round was when the shark really attacked (pun intended) as Chadd set about nibbling at his opponent with some wonderful inside elbows and landing the more effective body-kicks. He also was terribly elegant in his defensive awareness.
Round Four Scores: 10-9, 10-9, 10-9
The fifth and climatic round was sink or swim time for Collins, who trains out of Phuket’s Revolution gym, as needed to hunt for the KO to take home the WBC global glory. He tried in vain: as Satanfaa played smart, fought smart and overcame the onslaught with some clever trickery.
Round Five Scores: 10-10, 9-10, 10-10
The final bell rang! The dignitaries gathered in the ring! The total scores were read aloud! Judge one: 48-49 to Satanfaa. Judge two: 48-49 to Satanfaa. Judge three: 48-49 and the new WBC MuayThai super-welterweight champion of the world had his hand raised in magnificent glory. A moment to savor for Satanfa, his friends, his family and his gym.
