England's Jonathan Haggerty had quite the breakout night on last night's sensational One Championship show in Jakarta, Indonesia, where he dethroned legendary fighter, Sam-A Gaiyanhadao, of his coveted One Championship flyweight world title.
In what can be described as a pulsating main event at ONE: FOR HONOR, Haggerty scored two knockdowns en route to a unanimous decision victory over Sam-A.
The two striking superstars immediately engaged in a back-and-forth war of attrition from the very first round, tagging each other with powerful combinations. A left jab in the third round dropped Sam-A, as did another left jab in the fifth round.
The action was fierce and intense all throughout the contest. In the end all three judges scored the bout in favor of Haggerty who was crowned the new ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion.
The world of MuayThai and fight sports social media went crazy clamoring to know more about the young English lion who had just dethroned the famed champion, and that mesmerizing fourth round was viral within minutes of its conclusion.
Haggerty will now have a big target on his back for the rest of the heavily stacked One Championship flyweight division, especially after he immediately called out Rodtang Jitmuangnon for what would be a mouth-watering clash of May monsters.
The gist of it all is this: follow One Championship as they will continue to raise the bar for hosting top-notch MuayThai matchups on a global scale.
