One Super Series: Global Stars to Collide in Manila

Saturday, March 31st: The countdown is on for One Championship to ignite their new ‘ONE SUPER SERIES’ fight event, which will amalgamate with their existing successful MMA fight shows.

The inaugural Kickboxing and MuayThai contests will be held on Friday the 20th of April in Manila under the banner of ‘HEROES OF HEROS’ combat show.

All fights will be fought in a ring, including the MMA contests on the card, a first for ONE.

To kick start their new concept they have lured a multitude of global Kickboxing and MuayThai superstars into the fold - lead by pound-4-pound throne holder Giorgio Petrosyan.

Petrosyan (85-2-0) will face off against Thailand’s Jo Nattawut (60-11-0) under international kickboxing rules, in a contest set for 3x3 minute rounds and will be fought at 70kgs.

Giorgio has not tasted defeat since 2013 — going into this mouth watering clash he will be seen as the favorite to keep that ruthless winning streak alive and kicking against ‘Smokin Jo.’ The last man to hand Petrosyan a defeat was  Suriname fighter Andy Ristie.

American based ‘Smokin Jo’ has produced a fruitful career since moving to America, where he trains under the watchful eye of Atlanta based trainer, Khunpon Dechkampu. This will be the biggest test of the Thai’s fighting career;  going up against the mesmerizing Petrosyan.

The Koart Thailand native is a former Lion Fight 154lb champion and is better known for his potent elbow and knee strikes.

Former multi-time elite Bangkok stadium champion, Nong-O Gaiyanghadao, will square off against French MuayThai star Fabio Pinca, in what promises to be a fascinating match up at 67kgs.

Nong-O can found these days working a trainer at the impressive Evolve MMA gyms in Singapore, where he still finds the time to train at a high level, under the guidance of many a former elite Bangkok stadium champion.

This contest will be fought under full MuayThai rules with the added spice of the fighters wearing MMA gloves. Pinca is regarded as the number one MuayThai fighter outside of the Kingdom of Thailand — he is a former Rajadamnern Stadium Welterweight champion and also held a coveted WBC MuayThai champion of the world title.

Yet another global MuayThai superstar features in this next contest when Brazilian star fighter Cosmo Alexander faces off against Australian powerhouse Elliot Compton. The bout is set at 77.1kgs.

Cosmo (50-15-1) is a former WMC and WPMF world champion — throughout a high level career spanning nearly a decade he has fought a plethora of the finest fighting stars, the world over. His most recent outing in the ring was a victory over Chinese fighter Tan Xiaofeng, back in 2017.

Compton, based in the coastal city of Brisbane, Australia has had an extended break from the ring, it will be interesting to see how invigorated he is from the long lay-off. His last outing in the squared circle was a defeat to Chinese fighter Li Shiyuan on KunLun 63 in China, back in June 2017.

New Zealand’s Brad ‘Quake’ Riddell has the unenvious job off facing off against rising Kickboxing star, Regian Eersel from Holland, or on the flip side, maybe it’s Eersel who should fear the quick-handed New Zealander — only time will tell. This bout is set at 78kgs.

Riddell goes into this contest fresh off a monstrous victory over Eersel’s compatriot Fernando Groenhart, on last month’s Powerplay promotion in Melbourne, Australia — he won the fight via a unanimous points decision.

Eersel has been busy building a formidable name  for himself in recent times, his most recent outing in the ring was a points victory over Matous Kohout on last September’s Lion Fight promotion in America.

Regian was scheduled to face off against French fighter Yohan Lidon a month ago in China, but that contest was canceled at the last minute due to Lidon coming down with a late illness.

Final thoughts:

One Championship seem to have ingenious ways of showcasing new innovative ways of building their brand in Asia — and with this swift and effective move of bringing Kickboxing and MuayThai into the mix they have surely hit another stroke of genius to further entice new and existing fans alike.
